Answers to common questions about Jotting Journal.
PIN and access
How does the PIN work?
When your child first opens the app, they set a 4-digit PIN. After that, the PIN is required every time the app opens. Only the child knows it.
What if my child forgets their PIN?
On the lock screen, tap Forgot my PIN? This clears all entries and notes and lets your child set a new PIN. The PIN itself cannot be recovered. If you saved a backup from Settings, you can restore the writing afterwards.
To avoid losing entries, use the backup feature in Settings before a PIN is forgotten.
Can a parent set or change the PIN?
No. The PIN belongs to the child and can only be changed from inside the app under Settings › Change PIN. This is intentional: the journal is theirs.
Data and backup
How do I back up the journal?
Inside the app, go to Settings › Your data › Save a backup. This exports all diary entries and notes as a file that you can save to Files, send to yourself by email, or store anywhere you like.
The backup file stays on your device or wherever you save it. It does not go to any server.
Can I move the journal to a new phone?
Yes. Save a backup from Settings on the old phone, then install the app on the new one and use Settings › Your data › Restore from a backup. Diary entries, notes, and categories come across. The PIN does not, so your child sets a new one.
Does iCloud sync the journal?
No. The journal does not use iCloud. All data stays local to the device it was written on.
What happens if I delete the app?
All data is deleted with the app. Save a backup from Settings before uninstalling.
Purchase
Is there a subscription?
No. Jotting Journal is a one-time purchase. You pay once and keep it, including all future updates.
Can I use it on multiple devices?
Yes. Once purchased through the App Store, you can download it on any iPhone linked to the same Apple ID at no extra cost.
